On behalf of the Timber Trade Federation, Confor, the EOS and ETTF, may we welcome you to the beautiful City of Edinburgh for the 2013 International Softwood Conference.

Scotland is one of the world’s most stunning places, full of natural splendour and awe inspiring landscapes.  Our woodlands and forests have incredible diversity from the ancient Caledonian Pinewoods to the modern, sustainably managed mixed softwood forests used by our industry and enjoyed by the public for recreation and their biodiversity.

With a challenging economic climate still swirling around us but with positive signs in some international markets, there cannot be a better time for the wood and the wood products supply chain to get together to identify these trends and to explore how best to address them.  Examining both supply and demand side issues the Conference will also provide a unique networking opportunity and a range of further opportunities to unpack some of the challenges facing the industry.

We will be running a fascinating pre-conference programme – showcasing British sawmilling and some of the ways wood is used in modern construction – alongside a fantastic social programme to show off the capital city of Scotland to its best.

We look forward to seeing you all in October.

“As early as 1953 Softwood Delegations met to discuss matters of mutual interest. So, the Conference was born. Today we are proud to be holding our 61st Softwood Conference.”
